Prof. Jong Won Yun received his BS (1985) and MS (1987) degrees  from the department of chemical engineering, Pusan National University, Pusan, Korea. He was employed for five and half years as a research scientist in CJ Cheiljedang R&D Center. The focus of his laboratory was development of functional sweeteners such as fructooligosaccharides and palatinose from natural resources. In 1992, he started his Ph.D study at the department of chemical engineering, Pusan National University. The focus of his PhD studies was production of fructooligosaccharides and isomaltooligosaccharides by several transferases. In 1995, following his Ph.D study, he was employed as an assistant professor at the department of biotechnology, Daegu University, where his work has focused on production of biomaterials with antidiabetic and antiobesity activity. Since 2000, he has started to study clinical proteomics to discover antiobesity biomarkers in response to antiobesity drugs or medicinal compounds with antiobesity activity. He is an Editor-in-Chief of Biotechnology and Bioprocess Engineering and acting as an editor or editorial board member of several international journals including Journal of Chemical Technology and Biotechnology, Journal of Microbiology and Biotechnology, and World Journal of Hepatology. He has published  281 papers (240 international and 41 domestic, as of March, 2022) in the fields of functional biomaterials and clinical proteomics.
